Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default 2002 Windstar stuck in overdrive

The overdrive off light will not come on nor will it shift down when I push the OD button. I have ohm metered the OD switch from the connector under the dash and the switch is working OK. There are no codes or other indications. Any ideas what to check next?

does the light show when you ate starting the engine? all the lights show at this time

Default No light on start

There is no light on start. But since the transmission never shifts down from overdrive I had ruled out just a burned out light. However, I talked with the Ford service manager today and he believes the OD control actually goes through the light. So, I guess I need to check the light. Do you know if this is true?
Thanks!

Default Light bulb OK

I pulled the instrument panel out and checked the bulb. It is OK. Anyone have a schematic of the overdrive circuit? Other ideas of things to check? I am afraid I am headed for the powertrain processor, wish I could check the signal in/out to see for sure if it is the culprit. Expensive.......

Well I don't have the overdrive circuit, but this 4 page diagram, shows the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and how that is hooked up to the AX4N and the various sensors inside, I hope this helps.

I just had my 1999 Ford Ranger in to dealer for this problem. I was billed $84 for their diagnosis and was told the "gear shifter handle" needed to be replaced. I was also told "there's a whole bunch of wires in there". I passed on the $245 repair bill as I don't need it, just wanted it available if it wasn't going to cost too much. That being said I'm thinking it may be as simple as a failed switch, loose connection or something like that. It actually failed while still on warranty but my bad as I didn't take it in for warranty repair. I hope this info is of some use.
