Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
I Am Going To Contact Ford About My Problem Again And Suggest Anyone Else With This Problem Do The Same. Maybe If Enough People Complain They Will Have A Recall? I PURCHASED MY WINDSTAR NEW IN 1999. IT WAS NOT ABUSED!
Ouch the Caps Lock makes it seem like he's yelling at us....What did I do to be yelled at even when I'm not home?!?!? lol
Honestly I doubt that ford will do much, expecially since they (1) Dropped Windstar/Freestar (2) Eight Years is a while. I would however like to see a protest of old Windstars up in Michigan.

Ford says they will not help me because of age and mileage of van (174618). A considerable amount of people would have to complain (or die) for them to do anything. So I guess I will go engine cradle shopping? Anybody ever install one. Any pointers?
you will need a hoist to hold up the engine and possible pull it out of the van, might be able to do it with a couple car jacks. Junkyard might be the best place to look, just check for signs of rust/accidents... Good luck.

My 1999 Windstar has done the same thing. The cradle rusted through on the righ-rear corner. It has 96k miles on it. What a bummer.
I have access to a FREE engine cradle from a 1998 Windstar but I am unsure if it will work since 1998 was the last year of the first generation and 1999 is the first year of the second generation. I'll have to check into that but I'm skeptical.
I plan to pull the cradle this coming weekend. I'll try to post photos when I get into it.
98 engine cradle will not work. You have to support engine and trans from above. I paid $250 for a used one. You should call ford so they know i am not the only one out there. I will be in and out all weekend but would be glad to share my experience with you and help out any way. Just be careful under there.
