Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
Low beam headlights don't come on but dash lights and running lights do. High beams work fine. Have swapped following from known working 98 Windstar: headlight bulbs, all relays in pwr dist boxes (2) under hood near driver, all relays on fuse block under dash near driver's left leg, headlight switch in dash, combo dimmer blinker switch. Have also pulled out and done a visual inspect of every fuse in pwr dist boxes and fuse block mentioned. Could a fuseable link have caused this problem. How would I find it? It started out as intermittent and if you hit the dimmer and turned on/off the headlight switch multiple times they would come back on leading me to suspect a relay. Thanks, Alan
look at the wiring for the multi-function switch (turn signal and wiper switch) the wires go into it before it goes to the lights. Also the daytime running lights are of the high beams and voltage is cut by the drl.
I have a similiar issue. A week after replacing the alternator and battery in my 98 Windstar, my lowbeams refuse to work, daytime beams do, hibeams will work only when I flash someone (can't turn them on). Anyone else had this experience?
Mind you, I also discovered years ago that if you drain the windshield fluid reservior the lowbeams will SHUT OFF when you're driving, leaving you with the daytime beams only. I found this out while driving home on a restricted access highway at night during a driving snowstorm (yeah "Perfect" timing!) I have since drained it again on purpose and saw the same thing happen ( The lights turn back on as soon as you fill the reservior)
