Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default I need HELP!

For the last 2 months (or more) we have had the Check Engine Light come on. It always shows a Cylinder 3 misfire. I have had just about EVERYTHING the guy at the garage said replaced done. Coil packs, igntion wires, spark plugs, wires, hoses, you name it. I had my injectors clean. It's doing the SAMETHING! Im getting scared! I mean do I have to get a new engine? It has 150,000 miles on it. When it misfires it bumps and the lights dim just a little bit. Does that mean the alternator? I am going to take it in this morning to the Ford dealership. Im so worried about it. Obviously or I wouldnt be awake at 2 am!! Please please someone help!! Could my injectors still be bad after I had them clean? I had them check the EGR (is that what it's called) and they said it's fine. Problem is when I take it in the dang thing runs like a gem. Then we have it and it runs like poo! Looking foward to hearing some input.

Check the compression on the number three cylinder, use a noid light on the injector and if your using anything other than a motorcraft or autolite plug point OE back in the motor.

If you want to check the injectors, take it to the shop and have them do it.
However i would not do that because I'm not sure thats the problem. You can take off the serpentine belt and spin each pulley to see if any bad bearings might be the issue, but read on.

It sounds more like IMRC gaskets. Have you been losing water (antifreeze) but now sure where it's gone (no drops on driveway). If you're not sure, wait for the problem to make the engine stall (hopefully when engine is colder to risk injury), then pull the number 3 spark plug out. It the plug is wet (with antifreeze), then your gonna need intake manifold gaskets. (upper, lower, and frontside valve cover)

If that's the issue, to buy the gaskets and do it yourself it's pretty cheap, but it will cost a bit for labor.

I'm so sorry, it's been forever since I came back here!

It was a bad injector. I took it to one place and he told me my head gasket was shot and it would be 1,000 to replace it... then it may not even be that. So I took it to the dealership. It was a bad injector. (By the way I asked the other place if it was that and they said no). So we got that fixed and have had no problems since then.

Thank You for your help.

kinda sounds like the guy who 'cleaned' the injectors lied and didn't do shit.

Wow! Been forever again since I've been here.

Oh, I agree. I was LIVID! I called the place and told him what I thought. I got my money back and will NEVER take my car there again!
