Ford ZX2 Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.

Default 2003 ZX2 brakes

I just put front brake pads on a 2003 ZX2 and there was a couple of things I wanted to double check with a more knowledgeable source, since I did it without a manual or any instructions.

1. There are four rectangular "caps" that came with the pad retainer springs. I finally found where they fit, 2 below each inboard pad. What I want to know is, are these supposed to be lubricated like the slider pins? I didn't lube them, just wondering.

2. Should the entire pin be greased, or just where it looks like the pad will ride? I went ahead and did the whole pin very lightly with good red stuff (high temperature).

3. Is 65,000 miles considered good pad service life for these cars? That's how long this one went, a couple of hundred miles too long.

Overall this seemed to be a very straightforward pad swap, on par with other Ford products I have worked on before. Someone let me know if I hosed it.

sounds like you did it right. Don't forget to replace the anit squeak (vibration) shims that were on the originals, or be prepared to play your radio louder every time you come to a stop.
