Ford ZX2Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.
Ok guys you have been really helpful thus far. I just bought a stock (I assume) 1999 ZX2. I am looking to make this the biggest gas saver I possibly can without spending a life savings. What can I do to this car to accomplish this? I am not a very big car guy so any help would be appreciated. I already did the obvious things like new air filter, oil, and spark plugs, oh and new tires.
Not to sound like a jerk, but your right foot is the most critical element.
Honestly, 2-5 mpg is to be obtained.
Our cars dump fuel if you step on it. Rolling the throttle on with minimal pressure for the circumstances helps a lot.
Tuning or a good computer is huge. Most stock computers have too little ignition advance. A loss of power and economy ensues. But these items are rather expensive, and you may not amortize the costs.
But get a straight through type muffler - it will pick up 1-2 HP, and help with gas mileage. You don't have to get a $200 one.
