Ford ZX2 Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.

the factory cruise control controls were installed on the steering wheel assembly. The wire would not be hanging out of the side. Four wires were used under the steering wheel to control the cc functions: green w/orange stripe, black, black w/white stripe, and light blue. If your wiring that is visible happens to match these colors, it is possible that the ford accessory cc was installed. I do not have a part number for a replacement control pad. You can install the steering wheel with the buttons to eliminate the hassle of trying to find the control pad. The cc wheel comes wired with the plug. You can either splice the wiring or get the end, splice it and plug it into the wheel.

About what you mention is under the hood for cruise control. All years of the ZX2 had the cc servo mounted near the power steering reservoir. The throttle control cable routed toward the front of the car and looped back to the throttle body. the cable connects to the radiator support, the cable tie down on the cylinder head (same one that the throttle cable uses) and finally through the hole right before the throttle body. If you do not have two cables connected to the throttle body or the servo installed, then you do not have cc installed on your car and these wires may have been for some other added on accessory (i.e. foglights).

good luck figuring out what the wires are for

if the wires match the colors I mentioned, then your best bet is to remove the covers for the steering column and solder the wires back to where they came from. They lead up to the clock spring. The clockspring under the steering wheel will have the plug that plugs into the steering wheel. From here all you will need is a matching steering wheel with the cruise control buttons to make the cruise control work again.
