Ford ZX2 Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.

Exclamation ...lost

Alright, here's my problem...

Ford escort zx2, 2000, 60k miles...

It normally idles at 1000 rpm. When it's hot and I press in the clutch it drops down to 800ish rpms. Only after it reaches normal operating temp., and after i've driven it for a while (at various speeds) will the low oil pressure light come on. Now when i press in the clutch the oil light flickers... no big deal. however it seems almost intermittently it will be worse (dropping well below 500 rpm) and in some cases stalling itself, while in neutral, with the clutch in...

First i had a code for the vct... replaced that... seemed to run good.
still doing it...
Then i had a code for the cam pos. sens.... replaced that.. seemed to run good.
still doing it...
now i have another code.. i have yet to check...
in the midst of all of this i changed the oil, replaced to a performance filter, replaced the oil switch, and checked the oil pressure.
the oil pressure is fine until it heats up and drops below 1000 rpms.

so this leads me to believe that it's not an oil pressure problem thats causing low rpms... but maybe another problem dropping the rpms, causing my oil light to flicker...

so i checked for vacuum leaks, replaced a few lines, replaced the pcv valve and still to no avail...

Sooooo... im lost.. any ideas?

What are the actual oil pressure readings you got? Low oil pressure can set a VCT code and that may have been an un-needed repair. The VCT uses oil to control the position of the cam. It counts on the proper oil pressure to do this. Also, there are many cam codes and not all of them are reporting a bad sensor, rather that the cam isn't in the position that it should be in.
