Ford ZX2Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.
If it's an automatic, don't bother. Swap it to MTX first.
What kind of racing? 1/4 mile or auto X?

You can spend $1000 on performance mods and still not make it as fast as a stock MTX. Not only that, but the ATX is prone to overheating and racing it hard on it. At the least you should install a transmission cooler. Honestly, you'll want to do the MTX swap. You can drop a second off of your 1/4 time just by doing that.

then i also put EBC break rotors and pads the car has no limiter and the guy i got it from said it would do 150 i have had it up to 142 mph. I have also seen some with turbos and focus superchargers but if you do some thing like that you have to rebuild the lower end first but like the other two said you need the MTX
But what are the weak points of the MTX transmission? I bought my ZX2 with about 70,000 miles on it. Shortly after the shift fork broke. Brought it in to get fixed and found that the spider gears were toast to. 4 weeks and $400 later I get my transmission back. Now I am at 184,000 and the transmission would not stay in 3rd gear under torque. Possible synchronizer problem. Ok, I pull the transmission again to get this repaired and find that the spider gears are toast again. I don't race my zx2, but then again I do drive it to its streetable potential. I have run synthetic ATF in the trans since the first transmission repair. I have not had to replace struts or CV axles yet, but I have had the transmission out twice. What the hell am I doing wrong?
Shift forks break and bend if you power shift, force it into gears, or if the clutch is out of adjustment. The spider gears are weak and since there is only two of them the problem is compounded. Any amount of wheel hop is going to break them. The Phantom Grip is a cheap fix but is only good for lower power levels. MFactory is making a true LSD for the G-series transmission. Hopefully they will be done with it this summer.
