Ford ZX2 Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.

Default fuel problem(i think)

2000zx2 s/r i purchased the car 2 weeks ago. service light was on but car ran excellent.then a few days later car is sputtering, but only at 3000 rpms or more. i would give it more gas and it would clear itself out. then within days car sputtering(misfiring) more and more and now all the time. the service light (wich was on before i had any problems )it read as a misfire in cylider 1. i have checked all connections and vacuum lines at least 3 times. the previous owner replaced plugs, wires, coil pack, fuel and air filters. i checked spark and its fine, wire fine. changed injector and thats not it. listened to injector to make sure its opening, thats not it. im running out of ideas. oh and the car only chokes with a load on it, in nuetral it idles and revs fine, only when your driving it acts up. it feels like something is clogged and its just not getting enough fuel. i might change fuel pump or at least the screens. anybody have any ideas? this car is in mint shape, has 99000 on it and ran excellent when i first got it,then it all went down hill.

You seem to be on the right track. Though I would make sure it has the right plugs in it. The thing with electrical parts is that they can last either 20 years, or 20 minutes, so even though they are new, never rule them out. Fuel filters are cheap, I would replace it again. I have gotten gas from stations that have contaminated my fuel filter before and caused a similar problem on my old Ranger.

Hi zx2guy,
You know i was hear trying to find out how to do something eles and came up on you problem here. I had a problem like this several years ago and it turned out to be the o2 sencer. But on mine the wire that plug into the sencer had gotten to hot and was half mealted. I fix the plug and it fixed my problem. But your could be the o2 sencer it self. if you don't know where it is.. it is usually on you exast pip some where, mine was just where the pip turns back after coming down from the motor.. on top of the pip.
I don't know if this is you problem but maybe this will help you. mr_nun_nun

It could possible be a clogged cat also. Since the problem is only when under a load. If you have acess to a infra red temp gun shoot it before and after the cat and see if the difference is large. Un bolting it is a option too but where its at its not easy. Hope this helps.

should i do the plugs again... i was thinking it could be wires, coil pack, clogged cat, bad O2's, or bad MAS...any ideas????

Thanks,
Ray
