Ford ZX2Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.
I can help you out with this some. I will need to know your skill level as far as what you need to know. Have you ever swapped a front wheel drive engine before is a good place to start?

I'm sorry it's a 98ZX2 to a 98ZX2 not a 99. This is the gf lol my bf is the one doing it. He's done rear wheel drive swaps but no never a front wheel. He's scared to do it but my neighbor said he'd help him if he decided to do it so I thought I'd ask here to see if I can get him some direction. He's pretty knowledgeable but def not a pro. Like I said he's swapped rear but never front. He's thinking about having my heads pulled off & getting them re-done also just depends on how much of a job this is gonna be. My car's water pump went the other day but if I keep putting water in it it was ok. Then the other day I went to take the kids to the pool & I left the house w/out checking the water which was stupid but the CHECK COOLANT light never came on which it always did so i was gonna check it when we got to the pool but we didn't make it. My car started making a weird noise & then it died. I pulled over to the side of the road & it was smoking. I called for my calvary & they came checked it out & we had to push it back to the house. It sounds like it wants to start but won't turn over so he thinks i've dropped a valve?? So I've been shopping for a new motor or someone who can re-do my heads for a decent price. Any suggestions here??? I found a motor & transmission in a car w about 105k miles a few hrs from home so we were going to go pick it up but have decided to buy the whole car for $400 for spare parts & hopefully it will make it back here but it's a 3hr drive ugh! So we're thinking about renting a car dolly & towing it back instead but I do still need help w/ this swap thing. Thanks for any help!!

Hey Melanie,
I need some boy parts for my car. so i am going to be nosey and ask where you are located. If it is anywhere close i would consider going to get the car with my trailer and maybe we could work a deal on the body and getting the car. I would be happy to help with any questions on the car also. I'm a mechanic by trade so i do know a few things about cars. I also won a track championship in a 4 cylinder class here running an escort. I'd be happy to help , just let me know. Drop me a line e-mail is cool. or on here.
Later,
Dave
Unless the car overheated, there is no reason to pull the head. The issue you are describing sounds more like the timing belt broke. After the car wouldn't start, did you verify that it was indeed out of coolant? To check the timing belt, remove the upper dust cover, push on the center of the belt between the cam gears. You shouldn't get more then 1/4" of play (deflection) in the belt. Check the pullies you can see for damage.
