Ford ZX2 Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.

Default ZX2 problems, help please!

So my wife and I have a 1999 Zx2 escort. About 3 months ago while driving the air conditioner stopped working while we were driving, i fgured a fuse had blown and i promptly checked the fuses, but none were burned out. And to my surprise when i turned it back on, the AC worked again..but a few minutes later it stopped working, and hasn't worked since. Now here is the weird thing..We can feel cold air coming out, but it seems like the fan just isnt pushing the air. So all you feel is a slight breeze come out of them..very, very slight. This also is the case with the heater..and now that it is winter it worrys us alot because we cannot for the life of us, get the car to be warm at all..it sounds to me like the fan is broken, but im not big on cars so i could be wrong. Any feedback is greatly appreciated..thank you.

check the paulon filter its located on the right side under the cowal (under the right wiper, plastic piece) you will have to remove it and there should be a filter, you could clean it with air or replace it its $$, or just leave it out, it stops dust and paulon.

Also check the fan speed switch/knob. It may be faulty especially if it ever got hot...

Default Check fan wire under dash

I have had this same problem with my 91 Escort and my 98 Escort. In both cases it was the wire connection for the fan which is located under the dash just above where the passenger's feet would be. Find the wire with the fan and ignition on and wiggle it. If the fan starts operating intermittently that's where the problem is.

your controls are operated by vaccum from the intake on your engine, if the rubber hose is weathered it will leak and thus none of your controls will work your air diverters and it will not let the air move in the right direction. Lift the hood and look right behind the altenator and follow the little rubber hoses and make sure they are not rotted and cracked, if they are replace them and that should fix it.

This is most likely the issue. The supply wire is a think blue wire.

I'm having the same issue presently on my 98. I'll check those items mentioned here. Thanks to all.

Ford told me it was probably the resistor pack located in the fan motor itself. If all else fails, you might give that a look too.
