Ford ZX2 Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.

Default 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 - Idle Air Control???

I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 and when the car idles it vibrates like crazy. If anyone know what to do please help out. I need to know what you did or where the IAC is and how to adjust it.

Thanks

2 things. I don't know how, but our local Precision Lube put in 30 oz. too much when we recently got a tranny fluid change. Take out extra fluid that could damage the tranny and cause vibration.
Second, since the idle screw is glued in position, I got some lead (that's right, Pb) tape from the golf shop cut some small strips to built up the choke plate arm (about six strips thick) where it meets the idle screw to increase the idle. Getting it up to about 1400 rpm in Park will give you 1000 rpm in gear when at a stop. The engine stays smooth.

No adjustment on the IAC. They can stick over time, but usually the stall when there's a problem. There is a TSB from Ford on rough idle, but it only pertains to certain years.
You can remove the IAC and clean them with throttle body cleaner, but it's onlt a temporary fix.

Default vacume leak problem

not saying i think this is your problem, but it was mine, and many others.. pcv valve and elbow leak.. the oem part is poorly designed IMO.. listen for hissing/sucking under throttle body.. the pcv valve is in the front of the engine (exaust side) and goes around right on top of thermostat housing and wraps around back under intake. my car would idle really low about 800 rpm to 1krpm.. it normally sits right above 1,100 rpm at idle..

bought new oem part.. but extended the section from the pcv valve in front of engine. now it doesn't put constant movement and strain on the elbow..

you should not have to do that. your car should idle at about 1,100 and when you put it in gear.. drop but then come back up to about 1,000
