Ford ZX2 Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.

Default Service Engine Soon light

Hi,

My 2003 ZX2 has about 38k miles and has been running great with no issues whatsoever until tonight when the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I stopped to check things out, but couldn't discover any problems...no unusual sounds or vibrations or odors. Oil level fine. The manual said it likely means a component of the emission control system has failed.

I drove on home and couldn't notice anything unusual except for the SES light remaining on the entire time. Any ideas on simple things I can check before I turn it over to a mechanic?

Have you had it checked yet? Mine had the same problem and it turned out to be the transmission shift solenoid. A lot of times the light indicated problems with the transimission.
