Ford ZX2 Ford ZX2 offers sporty styling, responsive handling, brisk acceleration, and everyday comfort and practicality for one or two people. Its back seat and trunk are fully usable. Yet the ZX2 is easy on fuel, and costs less than some base-level sedans. Gone is the smooth, grille-less look, replaced by a dark horizontal slash between the headlights.

Default can't find my coolant leak

2001 ZX2
40k miles

I got a leak, it's been killing me trying to find it. It's 13 degrees out as well, so it's not so easy to go crawling around the ground. Overnight the car left a nice sized puddle. It seems to be dripping down onto the transmission somewhere, and burning off on the warm transmission/exhaust. There's a sweet glycol smell in the air I can smell from the cabin at drive thrus and when i get outta the car...

The orange connector below the thermostat housing there is a little wet, and there's a little residue all around it, so I'm thinking maybe the housing/seals is causing it? How common is this failure? What's the most effective remedy?

Default

Wow that was quick, I solved my own problem....im that good heh...

so I bent down to take a closer look and braced myself on the "gooseneck" thermostat pipe, and it had a lotta give/wiggle. The top right screw seemed to have no torque to I unscrewed it a bit more, coolant started dripping out in the exact same drip pattern from the pictures... I tightened it up and I'll assume that's it... we'll see what it looks like in the morning...

I had the car two years, never lost a drop of anything, never touched the thermostat, strange...

Default Coolant leak

The 2.0 DOHC has a o ring between the headf and the plactic thermostat housing. Very common problem. Be careful when you tighten the bolts as they can snap the housing. I've sold a few lately at the dealership I work at.
