RobDog and moderators,
I have a suggestion for the ranking of members Experience and how points may be allocated.
You may reference this link for some of what I refer to in my comments below.
Ford Forums - Ranking
Currently I am the second highest poster on the site, second only to Mark.
When I look at the points that I have as a user I am listed on page 351. EDIT: ( I'm at about 1360 points and the page number changes as my point and those of others changed) More than 10,000 members have more user points than I. Most of them have one or two posts, and have 0% participation.
IF you look at how the points are allocated to users
Ford Forums - Earn Points
One will see that 2 points are allocated for each day since one registered. IMO that should be reduced to just about nothing. Or be credited only on days that the user visits the site or participates at the site.
OTOH only 1 point is given for reputation points. Believe it or not reputation points are hard to come by. Often I have seen that members give very good and detailed advice and the questioner does not say thanks or (it seems) even return for the advice. It seems that perhaps only one in twenty good/worthy posts get a thumbsup. Therefore I suggest that reputation points credit the poster with 10 or 20 user points.
If one sorts for reputation, one will see that 7 out of the top 10 in reputation have less than 900 user points. Yet fully one third of the members have more user points.
IMO reputation is most reflective of a member's participation level and of willingness to take the time to give meaningful posts. Again, I suggest that you give more credit for reputation points, and less for number of days since registering.
