Default 87 Crown Vic Ltd Heater Core Replacement

Let me start by saying I'm not doing the work, my husband is and I'm frustrated watching him fight with the car in -40 weather. The wagon stopped blowing heat. A new heater core has been purchased, but how to get at it? The dash wouldn't come apart so he's taking stuff apart from underneath. The exaust has been detatched and the heater core cover is loose, but not off. Any suggestions as to how to get at the thing? We bought a book from Canadian Tire, but it doesn't have any useful information in it. To make matters worse, bits of plastic are snapping off everywhere due to the cold and now we've lost our cruise control.

Oh my God... -40!

I am sorry that I do not have any specific information regarding a '87 Crown Vic. I'd like to suggest that perhaps an electric heater in the car while he is working in it will make it more comfortable, even an electric hair dryer would help.

Regarding the ductwork. He would not be the first to cut it up and duct tape it back together. Little strips of metal brackets screwed to hold the plastic together and then duct taped to make it more or less air tight is something that may work. I can't imagine -40 degrees!
