Default Can I change the AC compressor clutch on my 89 crown vic?

Do I need any special tools to change the AC compressor clutch on my 89 crown vic? It's smoking and not working. I want to get one from the junkyard and remove/replace it myself.

no special tools to remove it but you do have to have it decharged from a shop before hand.its under pressure and good for the environment then.you will have to flush the system to remove any contaminants.one from a junk yard is risky.good luck

Behind most clutch failures, a compressor problem hides......

Just wanted to recommend installing a "Smart VOV" (Variable Orifice Valve) if you are redoing your a/c. It makes a big difference in temps at idle and slow speeds. I have one in my 89 CV and will always use one from now on rather than the fixed orifice tube.
