ford escort overheated now wont start Thanks, any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi all, I am new, I have a good knowledge in ford cars that came from wrenching on my 5.0 all through school and college. Currently I have another problem.
Its the girlfriends car, it is a 1991 escort wagon with the 1.9 liter engine. The car began to overheat, it seemed to start cooling down when stopped, and got progressively worse to where it would overheat when driving at moderate speeds 40-50 mph.
It did overheat while driving, check engine light came on and by the time she was able to pull over, it shut itself off. Waited for it to cool down began drive home, overheated pretty fast. * while this was happening I cranked heat and the heat was blowing towards the floor very cool, no warmth whatsoever. It was blowing some white smoke by the time we got it home ( entire trip was less then 5 miles back and fourth). Parked it, let it sit, next day, replaced the thermostat. ( never tried to start it that day). Now it will not start, it cranks and I believe I heard the fuel pump prime. If I give it some gas it starts to run, but like its idleing EXTREMELY low and stalls. The check engine light and the "Fuel Cuttoff" Light come on when trying to start.
- Any ideas to check next?
- Could "fuel cuttoff" light indicate the "fuel cuttoff/intertia switch" has been activated.?
- if the motor is gone? how can I tell? I certainly hope this is not the case.
- any other suggestions?
Thanks very much. |
