05 Expedition replaced TXV, rear air a/c stopped working and whistle noise
About a week ago, I started hearing a whistle noise coming from the rear right quarter panel. The following day, the air started blowing cool/slightly warm air. My husband replaced the TXV thermostatic Expansion valve (new from napa) and recharged the air and it worked for about 1 day. Then the whistle started again. Now about a week later, the front ac is cool/warm again and the rear ac has stopped working all together. Please help!
ps When the ac is on, the tube going into the top left of the exspansion valve is cold and the top right, the 2 on the bottom are luke warm. Is that normal?

Sounds like a refrigerant leak. I wonder if adding refrigerant would stop the whistle and get the coldness back. If so, you have a leak.

And when the A/C performance declines, just the rear is affected or both front and rear?

The front air blows cold on the #2 setting when I put it on 4 it doesent seem to work as good. The rear does not blow cold at all regardless of what setting its on.

Are we talking about the front expansion valve or the rear?
Same Q. about the lines: front or rear?

I'm talking about the rear txv. This morning when my husband left, the rear air started blowing again. However, still have all the same issues as I listed above.
...When the ac is on, the tube going into the top left of the exspansion valve is cold and the top right, the 2 on the bottom are luke warm. Is that normal?
If the system is working normally, I would want to see the small line warm/hot and the other three lines cold.
My "gut feeling" on this is that you might have a restricted drier up front. It would explain few things.

"you might have a restricted drier up front"
What would we need to do to fix it? What do we need to buy and how do we go about replacing whatever is broke?
Well, you would need a new drier....but that is an "internet diagnosis" which means don't buy the parts just yet!
If it the drier (as I am thinking) the the liquid lines that exit the drier will be cold/cool rather that warm/hot.
I have not had the luxury of gauge readings or air temps so I am really just throwing out ideas. I don't know that expansion valves or refrigerant restrictions are capable of whistles.....
