This is my first posting - thanks to all who can help. I have a 1998 Ford Expedition XLT with 112,000 miles. Last week on a trip to FL I had the AC running and a noticeable electrical burning smell came out of the vents. No smoke, just an odor. It was NOT constant, but every now and then. I turned the AC off, stopped the vehicle and checked under the hood and found nothing. I kept the air and AC system OFF the rest of my trip - 12 hours. No more odor. On my return trip I used the AC and NO burning odor at all. The AC was on for 12 hours. Any help is greatly appreciated. DML
Daily. Let me add to my post: In May of this year the same thing happend (electrical odor and the battery light came on). The Alternator went out the next day. I replaced with a new one.
Once a motor/resister burns to the point of being able to smell it, I don't think it could run another 12 hrs. You didn't follow van load of hippies did you ? LOL !
