Default 1996 Ford Explorer heater controll issues

I have a 1996 EB Explorer with climate control heating and cooling. Just recently I am unable to move the direction of the heat with the controller. The a/c works, the heat works but I am unable to move it from the defroster position to the floor. When the selector is pushed there is no vacuum sound as before. Thank you for your input in advance.

The first think I would check is the underhood vacuum source. Often the small plastic lines crack and leak vacuum. Under your air filter housing, look for a black plastic vacuum reservoir. The problem may be located at/near this area.

Your diagnosis was correct. A loose vacume hose in the area you discribed. Thank you so much for your help.
