Help replacing water pump, 2000 Taurus?

Hi, I posted a while back about low heater output on my fiancee's 2000 Taurus. It's the Duratec engine, and it's been thoroughly flushed...mechanic says it's the water pump, given that he got tons of rusty sludge out of the heater core and in his experience, this means water pump. Has low heat now but isn't going to cut the Northeast winter we have coming.

So, can someone point me to the removal/installation steps for a water pump of that year? I saw a post that was very good on this, in this forum, but can't locate it again

Can't even get the Haynes manual up here in Maine, ugh!

IIRC, the W/P is on the rear of the head, above the transmission. Look for a separate belt.

Check out autozone.com they have repair manuals online for free.

Hi Beast,
Since Autozone upgraded their site last year, I don't think their repair manuals are vehcile specific, as they once were. If you get a chance, please take a look, it may be just the things I went there to look up.

Thanks guys! The Haynes got me thru it, pretty intuitive once you go ahead and dig in. Only trouble left is.....the routing for the serpentine belt I THOUGHT was correct is not!! But I will make a new post for that one.

Tip for anyone in the future...have 13mm and 15mm crescent wrenches, and deep sockets + normal sockets (metric, 8, 13 and 15mm) - as well as a T-50 torx bit for belt tensioner, for this one!
