Need a little help here if you can.....I have a taurus that is blowing nothing but cold air.
I have went through the whole thing on Saturday, and this is what i've done.
1) I took off the heater core hoses that lead into those aluminum hoses, and back flushed the core back and fourth, so now there is good flow going out now. When I put everything back together, and ran it, the bypass hose was warming up, but not the heater hoses. I then kinked the bybass hose to make the flow HAVE to go through the heater core.....still nothing. I then checked the hoses for obstructions....looked ok.
I then did this...I took off the output hose of the heater hose while keeping the kink on the bypass hose just to see if flow coming out.....but the enging was too hot, and the thermostat was open and wasnt getting flow.
2) I check the blend door actuator.....door is working.
3) I replaced the thermostat.....still hoses to the core not heating up.
Now after doing the output of the heater check, I know the core is good, but even if the thermostat is open and the bypass hose kinked, shouldn't I still get flow regardless if the thermostat is open or not?
From reading these forums, I am down to one thing, but I really want to make sure I've checked everything I could before I do this, but I've read that the fins on the water pump disolve after time, and could this be my case??
The heater hoses always have water flowing through them no matter if the thermostat is open or closed. 99% sure it's the water pump.
I went though this with my 99 Taurus....after 3-4 heater core flushes, a couple engine flushes and a new water pump, I finally added a coolant filter with a spin on cartridge.
I check/change it every oil change and the cooling system is still 'making' crud, rust, sand ect.
Now after doing the output of the heater check, I know the core is good, but even if the thermostat is open and the bypass hose kinked, shouldn't I still get flow regardless if the thermostat is open or not?
I no expert, but if you have clamped off the bypass, and you are not getting output from the heater core, then it sounds like you have a blockage, regardless of the thermostat.

Possibility. Make certain any replacement has an anodized impeller.

I agree that is sounds liek it could quite possibly be the water pump.
Considering that the blades may have corroded off, you may want to check for electrolysis, and if you have it properly treat it.

Bronco, for electrolysis, is that when I tie a ground wire from one of the aluminum hoses to car ground??
I'd suggest read the info in that link first to determine if you have an electrolysis problem. There is also info at that site about how to treat it.
