Default 2000 windstar heater door clicks..poor heat

How can I get the damper door to behave. What makes this thing tick?
Any temp fix for this season. Can I wedge something in there someplace and just control the blower speed for manual temp control???

With the radio removed, the blend door actuator should be visible. The actuator may be stripped, or the temp door may be broken. If the actuator needs to be replaced, then your lucky. Often the door shaft will break, requiring replacement of HVAC box, or some kind of inventive repair.

Mine had similar symptoms. Replacing the actuator ($60 part) did the trick:
