Post Air Conditioner Blows Hot Air-2003 Expedition-EBauer

Hello Everyone. As we head into summer I would like to be able to use my air conditioning. Currently my air conditioner in my 2003 Expedition blows out hot air. If I want heat that works fine but now I need cold air and it doesn't seem to be working. Is this something that I can fix myself or am I going to have to take the truck in for servicing? Whew, the summer's just beginning and I want to be prepared. Thanks Everyone.

Go to an auto parts store and buy a can of freon that comes with a removable hose and gauge to see if you just need some freon. It's really easy to install just read the directions and check back here if you need any more help. If you get it all installed and it's colder then after a few days or so it gets hot again, add a can of stop-leak and if it still does it after a while then the leak is too big and must be serviced by profressionals.

take it in, the problem with adding freon yourself is knowing how much is in the system. if you add to much it can cause more problems. btw the only way to know how much freon in the a/c system is to take it all out.

If the compressor isn't coming on then you could add a can to see if it just needed freon. The low side pressure reading tells you if you have the right amount of freon for normal function.

I have a similar problem with a Hyundai XG350L. Had the problem about 6 weeks ago. In addition to blowing hot air the A/C was making a frequent "suction noise". I took it to a place for service..... The guy at the desk tells me to take the car to the last bay. The service guy barely speaks english and tells me "I can make it cold for $30". 2 minutes later he drives the car both in and out of the bay and the air is cold. I could not get a straight answer out of him due to the language barrier and his desire for me to "get out of sight ASAP so that the manager did not see" , but I assume he just added freon? Now 6 weeks later same problem. Any thoughts? Sounds like a leak?

I have a 03 myself, and I'm having the same issue. I've been tempted to get the recharge kit and do it myself, but now Im not so sure.
