Default ac blows through defroster on 2003 Crown Vic

when my AC blower is blowing on any setting other than the lowest possible one (auto climate system) the airflow goes from the dash vents to the defroster vents when I accelerate. 2003 Crown Vic. I am told I may have a vacuum leak

I have not been able to locate the hose you described. Would I be looking for a disconnected hose causing the problem or a crack with a leak problem? There are no vacuum hoses on the passanger side that I can see from top or bottom.

I would like to know about this issue as well. My dad's 03 Crown Vic has a similar problem. The air will randomly move from the defrost to the floor to the dash vents, but spends most of the time blowing thru the defrost. There is no black vacuum line on the passenger side of his car either.

The only vacuum lines I can see are from a switch attached to the top of the passenger rear engine compartment, a white line running forward to the front of the motor(under the plastic shroud), and another running to the top at the back of the motor, this switch also has a connection to the low pressure freon tube.

I had the same problem and the vacuum hose they are talking about was off. I reconnected the hose and all started to work fine. Just my 2 cents.

Which hose and exactly where is it? There is NO vacuum hose on the passenger side of the motor that I can see.

My A/C has been blowing out the defroster vents, then the floor, then finally after about 10-15 miles down the road it will blow out the A/C vents. I have taken it to countless mechanics without success. Finally to Ford Motor CO. The part alone without labor is $905. I opted not to do that. The bad thing is every time I turn off engine and then restart - I have to go through the entire routine of blowing out defroster, floor, etc.

Default Bad control head

The problem is with your auto climate control head. pull out the control head and observe the vacuum lines that attach to the rear of the unit. They plug in to the electric solenoid plenum controller valve. It is this valve that causes all the problems and Ford motor company will not sell you the part or offer it as a dealer serviceable item. I exhausted all avenues attempting to find a reasonable solution to the bad control valves, Ford refuses to help in this matter.
Solution:1. remove the vacuum line unit from the control head
2. Remove the electric solenoid valve pack from the control head.
3. Holding the valve pack with the vacuum lines facing away from you remove three solenoid valves except the one on your left side nearest you There are 4 all together. Make sure you remove the plungers.
4.Fill in the holes with some putty that hardens on all three holes.
5. Remove the forth solenoid valve and then remove the plunger and then replace the valve back on the valve assembly.
6. Wait until the putty hardens and then replace the valve back onto the control head, and then return the vacuum lines and place the control head into the dash.
You will have full dash vents open along with temperature control for heat and ac. However, nothing else will operate and I have found out that all you really need is the dash vent control.
Ford wants $800 for the other solution and it waits to fail again.

Default A/C on Crown Vic

Does the entire dash have to be removed for this work to be done?
