My a/c compressor recently borke, pulley that holds the belt came loose and I was told it cannot be fixed so I am in the process of removing my compressor so I can replace it with a new one and put the belt back on and have it recharged. My problem is that I don't see much room where I can get the compressor out from where it is mounted. I can remove he bolts and hoses but what is the best way to get it out and put the new one in? Do I have to remove something else to make space to get it out? If so what is the best thing and easier thing to remove? Any info is appreciated...
I am working on a 2003 Windstar and I am in the same situation you are. I have all my bolts out and lines off but cannot get the compressor out. I removed the bottom radiator hose trying to slide in out the bottom corner but it keeps hitting a little corner of the frame. I am searching for the proper way to remove it, but if I don't find another way by tommorrow afternoon I;m going to take a cutting torch to the corner of that frame. please post anything you find also. I am also having problems getting a new orfice tube back in the line. Very aggrevating vehicle to work on.
I cut the corner off that piece of metal the comes off the corner of the frame and came out the bottom. I read somewhere on the web that you can remove the alternator and alternator bracket and come out the top. But the first alternator bolt I tried taking out seemed to be seized up and I was afraid of twisting it off so I gave up that approach. Once I cut that corner off it came out fairly easy and was not too hard to get back in. I think it would defintely beat removing the alternator.
Hello, I got mine removed and changed. The thing I did was removed the one piece radiator fan/shroud which is only two top bolts, and unplug the wiring. The bottom is just a slide in and twist it to one side and the compressor comes out easily through the top.
