'91 Explorer a/c compressor seizing up My '91 Explorer was originally charged with R-12. I converted it to R-134 a couple of years ago and it has worked fine up until this point. (I do have to add a can of R-134 each year.) This year when I was adding a can, the clutch engaged as I was charging it, but ater a while, the compressor seemed to lock up and I could smell the belt getting hot.
Is my compressor shot? I know Ford started using R-134 sometime in the late '90s. Were those vehicles equipped with a different compressor. If I have to replace the compressor, are there any other parts I should replace using later model parts? Thanks! |
