Default AC pressure 65psi-180psi

I was going to recharge my air conditioner but when I hooked up my gauge it read 65 psi then went up to 180 psi. I keeps cycling like this when the pump kicks on. Does anyone know what I can do?

Sounds like an overcharge condition cutting out on high pressure. Air in the systems will lead to higher pressures also.

Are you hooked up to the low or high side service port?

The Car is a 2001 Explorer. I am hooked up to the low pressure side and that is what woried me. The air works intermittently. Thanks, for any help or ideals on how to fix it. Cris
