I've got a 2001 taurus that after about ten minutes the compressor clutch will kick out and not re-engage for several hours then run for about ten again. all basic electrical checks are good. 134 charge is also good any ideas.
I had the same problem, I am in the process of putting up a guide on how to fix that, it is a very simple fix.
If you want some insight it has to do with the clutch being worn off, so the way that I fixed mine was to take the clutch off and remove a washer that was put in place to keep the correct spacing between the flywheel and the clutch of the compressor. Removing the washer will shorten the gap and get it work engage again.
The reason it doesn't work after 10 minutes is because the compressor shaft expands from the heat and the gap is too far for the magnetic field to pull the clutch.
Hope that helps, be on the look out for my guide soon.
Hey wm956 and buxter...new to the site and am having the same problem with the wife's 2005 Taurus...turn the air on and about 10 minutes later it blows warm air!!!
Wondering if buxter posted his guide yet. Any help would be appreciated.
These forums are great...If it wasn't for the Corvette Forums, my "Money Pit" would be in my garage more than the road.
Also have a '94 thunderbird with 60,000 miles and the air keeps cycling on and off...
