My 2000 mercury grand marquis only blows out hot air even when i have it on the a/c. I turned on the heat to for a few minutes and then back to a/c, but now it only blows hot air no matter what i set it to. Not ready to get rid of this car yet, but do not want to spend a lot of money i can put down on a new one. Please help
Most likely the blend door motor. You should also check the blend door for free movement. Check that no foreign objects are in duct. I purchased a blend door motor for my 96 grand marquis at a mercury dealer for $72.00. This is very difficult even for a do it yourself guy. I disconnected the battery and removed the passenger side air bag and air duct. I made a special handle for a 1/4" socket to remove the 4 bolts. I have seen on the net that dealers charge for removing the dash with charges from $800 to $1300 to replace blend door motor.

i reached up under the passenger side dash and found the vacuum air line controlled cannister that opened/closed the heater vent door.
un-hooked the line and the door shut by itself, POOF, cold air.
just remember to hook it back up in the winter!
