I have to tell you that after more than 2 years with the nosiy brake pedal in my 2000 Ford Taurus, the mystery has been solved- no more crunching noise in my brake pedal!!! I can hardly believe it. Over the 2 years, I spent a lot of money having it looked at and was reassured that it wasn't a safety issue but no fix.
Recently, I thought I needed a new muffler because there was a progressively louder "droning" noise along with the usual crunching brake pedal. On inspection, the muffler had lost all of its fins so I had that system replaced but the drone noise was still there on acceleration.
A very smart mechanic ( Rick) at Green and Ross in North London Ontario diagnosed the problem- namely the front right side wheel bearing. Amazing once that was repaired, there is no longer any noise from the brake pedal.
I hope this helps others with this problem. I am still in disbelief that it is finally fixed.
