usually the brake fluid should be flushed every few years, this is because brake fluid has an affinity for water, meaning that water can be absorbed by the brake fluid. Water can cause rust in the brake system, so it is important to flush the brake fluid every 2 years.

It's cheap, easy, and benificial to flush the fluid yourself. You can do it the old fashioned way (bleeding the brakes for an eternity, or a better option: you can buy a vacuum brake bleeder and use that, as the traditional way of bleeding can potentially damage the piston rings in the master cylinder. I've personally never had a problem with bleeding brakes the old-fashioned way, and I do not own a power brake bleeder or vacuum pump.

Mark V does use the vacuum pump method, and he insists that it is fast, safer, and way easier to do. I would ask him about the particulars, as He loves to talk, and he is extremely knowledgable.
