Hi all, I'm a Ford lover and a new member, and am having an extremely difficult time with the electrical system in my 1998 Explorer Limited 5.0 L with all the bells and whistles. Prior to joining this forum, I was able to read and find some very helpful tips here, but now I am at a standstill, and thought maybe someone might have experienced some of the same issues.

Here's my story, and I'll try and make it as brief as possible. My trouble seems to have started around a year or so ago, when I drove about 25 miles home with an engine misfire condition. I believe my catalytic converter got really hot, and shortly afterward, the electric seats stopped working. The problem seems to be a serious short starting from the driver's side inside fuse panel. Soon, I lost my electric door lock controls, automatic ride control, then electric seat controls and now all electric window and windshield wiper controls.

I have checked all relays and fuses throughout vehicle; everything seems to point to Generic Electronic Module (GEM), but I am more suspicious of shorted wiring. I would rather know if I should check for shorted/wiring over passenger side before I start tearing out carpet and removing seats.

Besides all this, the truck runs great! Anyone have any ideas?
