I can't see where this issue got resolved. I have the exact same problem with my 2000 F250 4x4 with a 5.4L engine. While the problems are all random, they are far too frequent. Most of the time it's simply a herky-jerky feeling while driving at road speeds, very similar to running out of gas. However, the problem that Graham567 described has occurred as well. In either case, turning the truck off and back on (temporarily) fixes the problem. I've been chasing engine problems with no luck. I've replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, MAF sensor, and added fuel injector cleaner. Now I'm thinking it is a transmission issue. If you put 2500 rpm into a torque converter at no load and all you get is a slow creep, the problem MUST be in the transmission, right?
