• reman. engine installed with a 100,000 mile warantee for $4000-$6000.
• junker engine installed with a 6 month warantee for about $3000-$4000.
• used windstar or other car for about $2000-$8000
• talk to your local mechanic (my engine was installed by a "lee myles"....transmission was rebuily with a lifetime warantee over 150,000 mi. ago at "Aamco")
The van runs tip-top in every aspect, besides crappy tires and dented body. By the end of the summer, it'll have an Alpine sound system, custom seat covers, new wheels, tires, and fresh paint and body work.... maybe more later, IDK.
I personally dropped in the most expensive, but least risk option. Remanufactured Motor, new radiator, new hoses, belt, new water pump, recharged A/C, all new fluids.
I am very pleased with the results. The van is so fast and powerful. The A/C is Ice Cold!!! I do advise that if you drop a different motor in, Make sure you check the hose clamps every 1000 miles for the first year or until they stop loosening/compressing. New rubber hose compresses when you first put clamps on, the hose compresses and the hoses leak.... so keep torquing the clamps. Just don't strip them.
