Most likely. If you take the truck to a trans shop, they are going to tell you to rebuild or they will want to disassemble to inspect the internal components. Either way I think you are going to have to do it to fix it. Depending on your budget and what a trans builder wants to fix it, you could find an AOD (4 spd auto) trans. Shop around before you decide. Call different shops for pricing and see what is out there. Jegs has some rebuilt AOD trannies listed on their web site.
Before I replaced the trans, I would try some Lucas Trans fix. It may not help, but its cheap and if it frees something up in there and it starts working you'll be glad you did.
i also looked around on the internet to see what i could find, and most sites were saying to drive it, or adjust the kickdown and the modulator valve. i adjusted the kickdown last night to give it a shot and was able to get it to downshift a bit, today i replaced the modulator valve and hopefully have some luck. im not to inclined to putting an AOD in my truck because i haul alot of heavy loads and have heard alot about them slipping very badly
well i appreciate all the advice, i just got my truck downshifting. turns out that a combination of vacuum and kickdown was all it needed to get going, and a bottle of trans fix with seal lubricent in it. Ill have to post a picture of it on here so yal know whats bin kicking my butt for the past few years now, thanks
