92 Explorer engine running hot I have a 92 4X4 Explorer 178,000mi. Manual tranny. I finally had my cooling system flushed. Black water and black slime came out. Had this done twice (no heat) Finally read the Ford Manual which stated that the heater core needed to be flushed separately. Did this 3 times. Had to replace lower hose (buckled), new thermostat, but she's running hot, can't go more than 5 miles without it getting all the way to the "L" or more. What's next step? Also for the last year my tach reads at 3400rpms (idiling) but engine does not sound as if it is racing that high at idle. I've had my 'sploder since she was born. Special ordered, Manual 5 speed, 4X4 on floor with manual locking hubs. Oh, still on original O2 sensors. She's been good to me, but leaks oil. Doesn't burn it. Boy am I glad this lady had a mechanic for a daddy so I atleast know a little. But, I sure could use some input on my coolant issue. Fairly new to area and haven't found a trustworthy mechanic yet, Would like to use Ford Dealer but just a bit out of my budget. By the way she's getting 15 mpg around town as old as she is...I believe originally rated 17mpg city/22 highway |
