Basically heres the deal. 1966 galaxie 500xl. Buckets and console shift auto. (C6). i got no idea how this linkage is supposed to attach to the shifter. I have the parts and the sloted linkage(stock) but the pin on the shifter swivels which confuses the heck out of me. If it doesn't have a bowtie on the hood, I dont understand it. Can someone PLEASE show me a photo or a diagram of how the heck this mounts.
I have a 68 and a 69 with floor shifters and c 6 . if you are trying to innstall a trans from another vehicle you need to know that the shift arm on the trans mission for floor shifts is a different part number and has a different angle ; and actually is mounted upside down from regular[column] mount. are you working with a c 6?
This is the deal. It is an original console shift auto/C6 trans. I bought the car early in its restoration. Now complete, the engine/trans need to go back in. My problem isnt with the mounting to the trans, it is the sloted end that mounts to the shifter assm., I see how the linkage attaches, however the shifter assm pin/stud is mounted to swing, therefor it does not affect the trans. position. when ran through the gear select positions, only the linkage pivots on the shifter. Hard to explian. bottom line is I need somewhere to give me an exploded view of how this attaches and operates.
just looked at my 69. the shift lever comes thru the floor and has an L shaped bracket that does indeed swivel. the slotted rod bolts to this swivel; the other end is an L shaped pin that goes thru the hole in the shifter arm on the side of the trans mission and is secured with two washers and a cotter pin. the swivel is there because as the shifter is moved it travels in an arc. It doesn't look like it will work but it does. The shift lever on the side of the trans needs to be pointing up and is about 3 inches long and is the heavier of the two levers. good luck
Youre right, it doesn't look like it will work. You pretty much confirmed what I thought had to happen. Thanks for taking the time. I guess I will hook it up and close my eyes and hope. Thanks again.
