Default Hi Everyone...chick with a truck here

Good Morning all,
I am new here and found this forum searching for a clutch problem answer.
I have had my Ford 6cyl 5 speed F-150 for about a year and a half..its a 2000.
I posted my problem already without posting here first....usually being a woman...I read the directions first!! *just kidding* Anyway, I love my truck...its done me right...now I made a big mistake not realizing I had a hydraulic clutch...and poof went the fluid...and now I have issues!! tried to bleed it yestuday...made my son get under it..I did the easy part of pump and hold...still no pressure...

I am a single mom who is not afraid to get her hands dirty although I have a 15yr old son who will be going to school for mechanics so he is alot of help. really need to understand more about my truck, its getting a lot of miles. Lots of good info here..glad I found it.
I will post my questions in the correct area after this intro...so..HI everybody..glad to be here.

As for you clutch leaking (no Fluid) I have a 95 Ranger that did the same thing.
Found out that the slave was leaking in the bellhousing.
I drove it like this for around 3 months adding fluid everyday.
Finally had it fixed - New Clutch, Slave, Master Cyl, New Flywheel. Cost me about $1200.
I (in my younger years) could have done this myself, but because of a back injury I let someone else do it.

Check the bottom of the Bell Housing to see if you see any fluid.
If it is not there check inside the cab under the carpet or on the floor for fluid.
Check the Fluid fill area for any leaks.

If all fails from above - put a piece of cardboard under the truck and see if you can find an area where it is leaking.

I hope this helps.

Jerry

Hi Jerry..thanks for the reply. I cant see anything around the bell housing thats good news. its been sitting over cardboard for about four hours now...nothing. thats good too I guess. I know from coworkers that this truck never got any real care while it was used here so this is probably the first fluid refill (since it was empty) its had. the fluid isnt moving at all and had a really hard time draining when it was bleed yesturday...I heard about going from the bleeder valve up with fluid to see if it comes up into master. also heard that overnite gravity bleed on a ford focus with the same issue worked too! Not sure what to do at this point but I will try anything at this point to avoid too much cost.

This is one of the very few Ford mechanical issues that irritate me. I don't mind a hydraulic clutch linkage, but the system can be a pain to deal with.

First, you have to find and fix the leak. It could be either cylinders or the lines between. Check especially the line fittings. They can both leak and allow air to be drawn into the system.

Until you find the leak, there's no sense in even trying to bleed anything. In fact, if you have a leak, trying to bleed it will never work because it will also draw in more air. Trust me, I've been there.
