Default Writer with question about Fairlane or Falcon 1961-1963

I am working on a mystery in which a character has a mid-sized car in 1963, it could be late model for that time period.

I have another character who disables their steering and brakes so that the first character would not make a turn at the bottom of the hill or stop and thus the crime.

What I need to know is this:
What kind of steering did Falcons or Fairlanes have in this period? How could these have been disabled? Power steering sounds like the easiest system to me... could a line have been cut?

Same with brakes: what kind did they have? Would it be possible to drain brake fluid and introduce air so that maybe the brakes worked once or twice before they failed? If so, would this be like the pedal going to the floor?

For the story, it has to be easy and simple to write /explain as too many technical aspects would slow down the story, so if I need to change the car model or year a little, I can.
