Non-Ford & Non-Automotive ChatThis area specifically geared towards non-Ford & non-Automotive shits and giggles. So if you have something to talk about that is non-Ford, post it here. Anything and everything is okay in this forum as long as it is rated PG.
I was just thinking about how long it will take for Ford to get off their a**** and build some new SVT cars. Like build a Fusion SVT with either the Duratec 35 or the Mazdaspeed6 engine to go head to head against the Impala SS. And maybe an obviously demanded SVT Focus with the turbo 2.3 like the Mazdaspeed3, for the same price they would sell out. These ideas seem painfully good and obvious, why doesn't ford build them? Get their heads out of the dying full size, luxury market and into what american buyers want to compete with the stupid Japanese excuses for cars.
I think a Taurus SVT would compete head to head with the Impala.The Fusion SVT would be a good match to the Altima.As far as the so-called dying full sized luxury market,last time I looked around out on the roads,the Full sized,luxury SUVs,regular family type cars are still out there as much as ever(so much for these so called "out of control" gas prices).Having said that,I do agree with you that performance is lacking for a regular guy.
Why is it that if you want a little performance,you have to get a Mustang?Or the short lived SVT Focus?Hey FORD,I don't make a six digit income,I have 3 kids and I want a performance type car.What have you got for me?Oh yea,NOTHING.The Marauder was a great idea,but at 30k+ it's a bit outta my range.The Focus is too small,and the Mustang isn't practical.A powerstroke diesel truck can be made to scream with few mods,but 50k for a truck is ridiculous if I'm not using it for work.
I have a few ideas myself about what Ford SHOULD offer up to the American public;
The new Taurus-I associate this name with bad trannies and electrical problems.500 was a better name,whatever.Offer this car with both the 3.5 v6 as well as a 4.6 v8(the fwd continental got it-so it CAN be done)and also offer them both with a manual trans.Give the buyer a sport wheel/suspension package w/either engine.Rename them;
3.5 v6-Galaxie-cost-18-22k
4.6 v8-Galaxie 500-cost-20-25k
add "touring" designation to either w/the sport package.Add "XL" to the wagon version.
Fusion-Another dumb name.Basically do the same as above except 3.0 and 3.5 v6s.Rename;
4cyl-Torino-cost-12-14k(these would be bottom feeder,company/commuter cars)
3.0v6-Torino 500-cost-15-19k
3.5 v6-Torino 500 GT-cost-17-21k
supercharge a 3.5 v6,do a mandatory manual trans/manual roll up windows and call it a Torino Cobra.Keep it under 25k
Focus-I like it the way it is,but they do need to build a turbo 4,SVT version,and keep it under 20k.And offer the SVT package on all models,including wagons.
Why can't they build me a v8/5spd Mustang w/manual windows,no spoiler for20k or less?You know,like the '87-93 LX coupes.
As far as the SUVs,minivans and crossovers,I really don't care so I don't have and ideas there.I think performance(just a bit)should be an option on all but the cheapest lowline econojunk.Heck,even in the '70s Ford/Chevys subcompact Maverick/Nova was their sorta economy car,and each was available with v8s/Grabber or SS appearance packages.
I think alot of people go Jap(Scion/Nissan/Mitsu)because they allow you to option your car with more choices than Ford does.For the kind of money new cars cost,I sure would like a little more freedom(and options) spec'ing it out.
Well I gotta tell you the Torino idea is cool, but I kinda like the idea of a 5.4 all aluminum supercharged just like the mill in the Ford GT that I worked on this week @ 550 ponies just like my 70 scj car. I guess I like the rear wheel cars, Dave.
I love rear wheel drive too,but it's obvious that other than the trucks,mustangs,crown vics that ford does not.I don't think the front drivers are bad,but the way they are marketed is just boring to me.I just feel that some name revival and a little more freedom of specing out your next 20-30k would sell a few more cars.
Yeh, I haven't been pleased with having front wheel drive cramed down my thoat; there must be a reason the Highway Patorl and Nascar have stayed with rear wheel drive;
duh, they handle better. I have a 64 ford pick up, two 65 Falcons and a 94 Mustang GT. I would rather drive any of them than my wife's 04 Impalla.
