Default Radio Issue F-150 2002

Right so this is my work truck but it's still annoying. Normally in the morning my radio does not work. It is a stock Radio/CD player. Interstingly enough, when I turn the lights on the radio lights up as normal with the dashboard. If I hit the eject button it will light up the time and also that there is no CD or eject one and bring it back in if one is in the drive.

As I drive around during the day it may turn on, it seems to be after the truck has warmed up, usually with the defrost on. This could take 2 hours or all day. It will then be on or cut out at random and it really seems to depend on the heat in the truck, get to hot, cuts out and off. Turn off the heat, fine till I have the truck off for an hour, then it's off again.

At first I thought it was a wiring issue because it kicked on one day coming home and then I hit a bump and it went off. It is the strangest thing to me because it really does seem to be a heat issue, to cold it won't come on, to hot it shuts off. It stutters a lot to when it's on at times if the heat is on I've noticed. It doesn't seem like it's not getting enough power, but that it's getting to hot, I turn the heat on and it's stable until it's to cold again.

Is this a wiring issue, corrosion or something? Or is this radio just shot?

Any ideas.

Thanks

Charter Tech 1929.

Sound like a power wire. There are two power wires for those radios, one that is always hot for your presets Clock, etc. The other supplies power when the key is on, witch turns on the radio. Sounds like that is your problem, because you have power for funtions that work with out the key on. So i would look into finding that other power wire that probley came lose or broke when you hit that bump.

I had a feeling that was the issue. When I originally got in the truck the radio was off. It came on the first time later. It has been on and off sporatically and now off for good. Interstingly enough my 4 ways and blinkers are not working now either. I took it in to the repair shop the company uses and they replaced the master relay switch. However a day later I had the hazards on per safty requirements and after an hour or so they were off, no blinkers either. some time later they worked again. After two days of that they don't work at all now either like the radio. I get the impression something is overpowering or over heating this equipment. Been very curious what it could be. It goes back in the shop tomorrow. by change it could resolve both issues once I locate and fix the other power wire for the radio.

Thanks for the info.
