Hello all,
I have a Ford Taurus 2001 and need to get to behind the radio to install a new part which many have claimed fixes the sporadically working gas gauge in the flexible fuel vehicle models, like mine. I bought the removal tools from Autozone (OEM Radio Removal Tools, part AW-FDRT). I'm having the most horrible time removing the radio. The directions on the internet say to push until you feel resistance, and then push out to the sides and pull. I've pushed it in until pretty much the entire tools are in the radio, i've pulled and pulled while pushing to the sides, but the tools are just not "clicking" or "locking" onto anything, and I can't seem to find the retaining clips the package/directions talk about releasing. If i'm doing something wrong, it would be of great help! I'd hate to pay a professional $20, $30 to take the radio out after i've payed $7 for the radio removal tools and $44 for the new part, and on top of that not even sure if the part will fix the problem! Thanks.
you dont have to remove the radio to change that sensor you can get to it on your back in the drivers floor board. Its held in by one 7mm bolt/screw.
If you have pushed the tools all the way in you may have bent the retaining clips to where it will almost be impossible to get it out.Tarus radios are one of the hardest to get out.
And by the way it fixes it more often than not there is ssm or a tsb that outlines what the deal is I am at home and cnnot access fmcdealer for the life of me(I am suspecting the kids this time)
hm, i got on the floor and looked up but couldn't seem to see it. I looked in the area behind where the radio would be. I might give it another look tomorrow.
I got under the dash and have pretty good access to the part, but am having the hardest time getting the bolt out. I have the 8mm part to remove the bolt but it doesnt seem to be budging. Any ideas?
