Default 99 Crown Vic Stereo Backlight Problem

Hi!
Does anybody have any info re: the factory stereo-head (AM/FM, Tape w/ factory 6-Disc Changer, in the trunk)from a 1999 Crown vic. The illuminated buttons & rockers flicker sometimes, and RARELY stay on for more than 10 seconds or-so..... They're just OFF, most of the time.
The problem seems to have nothing to do w/ the the LED display (which shows radio frequency/cd & track/volume level, etc...); it's just that the tiny-little LED's on the circuit board, behind the face plate don't want to stay on(!!!). I can get them to come on if I press-on the face plate with my finger but, as soon as I let go, they go off again!
I've taken the face plate off, and dissassembled it from the PC board-- & w/ various appropriate Deoxit chemicals, cleaned the board, membrane and all the contacts; including the two 14-pin connectors that connect the face to the main body of the head.
Any experience, knowledge, ideas?!
Thanks!
