When a expedition won't give your cd's back...

Hoping that someone can help here; I have a 2006 Eddie Bauer Expedition with a 6 disc cd player. A few months ago we were tailgaiting at a football game and the battery went dead. We got it jumped and all was well, but the cd player no longer acknowledges that there are cd's in the player. They were at least three in the player when the battery went dead and, after getting it back to power, it tells you "No CD" when you go to access the cd player. If you press "load", it prompts you to choose a slot, but displays "load error" whenever you choose any of the six slots. Is there some sort of "reset" possible that would get things back to normal that anyone is aware of? I'm hoping to avoid having to get into the dash. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
