Question 98Taurus-Stereo Volume Stuck!

I searched this site up and down for someone with a similar problem and I didn't find ONE!!!

Check it out, the stereo volume in my 98 Taurus was working fine until a few weeks ago. It still worked fine (am/fm worked, all presets worked) except the volume was stuck on about 5 or 6 bars. We all know that the push knob that turns on the stereo is also the volume knob, right? Well, the push to turn on and off worked fine except if you turn the knob right OR left, it didn't do anything and the volume stayed at 5 or 6 bars. This is the weird part. When this began, a couple of weeks went by and I noticed that the volume was still stuck but showing just FOUR bars.......Yadda, Yadda, now currently, my stereo volume is still stuck but showing just TWO bars AND MIND YOU, the volume is going down along with the bars, lol!!! So, as of right now, driving on the FREEWAY blankets any listening to Coast to Coast with George Norrie on my way home from work!

My apologies for this being so long but that's what's up and I would SOOO appreciate any feedback on this. HELP!

Thumping it doesn't do anything? I mean to do it from say the 6 oclock position just slightly thump it upwards and see what happens when you try to turn it up. Potentiometers wear out over time and ones that also have push on/off wear out faster than just volume pots. If you have a soldering iron and are careful you may be able to replace it with a new one.

If you have intermittant running problems or a flat spot/buck/dying/cutting out while accelerating.
Do your self a favor and try some dedicated gas
line dryer, Double or even triple dose it, It's cheaper
then throwing parts at a problem that doesn't throw
codes!!
