Default 2010 Expedition Ignition Key Starter Lockout

The ignition key for my 2010 Expedition has alarm and door lock remote buttons included on the key fob.

I have discovered that if I leave the key in the ignition while the engine is not running, that when I remove it and later re-insert it and try to start the engine, that the starter is disabled until I depress the "unlock" button on the key fob.

Many thanks to the local Ford Service Manager for getting me out of a jam early in the morning when I was getting ready to go to work...actually, the day after I took posession of the vehicle. I have verified (accidentally, of course) that this situation does repeat itself but I have not yet (too chicken to try it) determined what the time delay is for leaving the key inserted with the engine off but my curiosity is...when the lock button on the keyfob remote is pressed, does this also disable the starter in addition to locking the doors. Next question (and I really should just try this myself), if I lock the doors with the keyfob remote, then unlock them with the key, will I also have to press the unlock button to enable the starter?

Silly questions, perhaps, but all this new security stuff is still somewhat intimidating until I get used to it and I don't really want to experiment...gets one into trouble sometimes.

Thanks for any discussion...
